The aim of the Probus Club of Worksop is to provide retired professionals and businessmen with the opportunity to meet and enjoy the company of a group of like-minded people. The object of all Probus Clubs is to promote fellowship amongst members by holding regular meetings and social functions. All Probus Clubs are non-political and non-sectarian.
The first Probus Club was started in 1966 by the Rotary Club of Caterham and the concept quickly spread throughout the world.

The Probus Club of Worksop was inaugurated on 21 November 1975 with the resolution "That a Probus Club be, and is hereby formed in Worksop". The club was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Worksop, with Rotn. A H Churchouse acting on their behalf. The first meeting of the club was held in the Central Library Worksop on 9 January 1976 at which Mr A H Churchouse was elected as Chairman. The 21 members enjoyed a film and talk on the manufacture of charcoal.
The club now has a membership of about 50 with high attendance at meetings. Meetings are held at the Worksop Cricket Club from 10.00 to 12.00 on alternate Fridays. Members are encouraged to invite guests and ladies are very welcome.
The Cricket Club, Worksop
Club members and guests enjoy talks, often illustrated with slides on a wide range of interesting subjects. Speakers are selected from specialists in their subject and from members who are happy to share a wealth of knowledge and anecdotes.
The club is socially active. Lunches are arranged for members and their wives (partners) at a local hotel. Overnight trips and day outings are organised and there is a Bowls Section meeting weekly at the local leisure centre.
If you are interested in joining the Probus Club of Worksop, or are a member of another Probus Club visiting the Sherwood Forest/South Yorkshire area please contact the Secretary Malcolm Watson.
